Commonwealth Bank (CBA) was named Australia’s most sustainable business on the Global 100 Index and was also ranked first among banks worldwide. As recognised pioneers in sustainability, the company is now working towards net zero by installing optimised solar photovoltaik (PV) systems on their branch rooftops nationwide, from inner-city to regional sites. ENGIE assisted CBA in its transition to power their branches through more sustainable means.
The Solution
ENGIE was engaged by Commonwealth Bank to assist with the rollout of solar PV systems across their CBA and Bank West Branches in early 2019. Since then, ENGIE has installed over 500 kWp of rooftop solar PV systems across 5 states. ENGIE offered CBA a design and construct package tailored for each site and delivered in a timely manner with minimal disruption to each branch’s operations.
As of June 2020, ENGIE had installed 24 solar PV systems across WA, SA, VIC, NSW, QLD, and NT for CBA. ENGIE collaborated with CBA to tailor exclusive solutions to ensure that the solar PV system does not contribute to security vulnerabilities of the bank, and to maximise the return of the solar PV systems.
The Benefit
CBA was the first Australian business to join the RE100 (Renewable Energy 100%), an international initiative operated by the Climate Group. CBA’s target is to achieve zero net carbon emissions by 2030 and ENGIE is assisting CBA achieve their goal. CBA has also benefitted from short payback periods for each system, averaging between three to seven years.
